Name tags wouldn't do any good. All that would be needed is the cool little pictures on our avatars. :)

Avatars could be copied. I vote for RFID tags for "source verification".

RFID embedded under the skin. Our RFID could signal each other and make introductions    Like the PDAs do in a meeting.

Orwell would be proud.

I guess I wold cast my vote for Fort Robinson. Maybe just because it is closer to me. I think it is a more open place less comerialism. There are other places of interest farly nearby, although maybe not so dramatic as Deadwood.

There is Toadstool Park, just a pile of rocks
The agate fossil site
The Old Bordeaux Trading Post (a large gun collection there)
Chadron State Park
Marie Sandoz Museum

Medora would be a good location, maybe a little farther than I would go, but the North Dakota Badlands are real interesting. Lots of history there, especially if you are interested in Theodore Roosevelt. I think Roosevelt was sort of a phoney, just a rich man who wanted the adventure of owning a ranch, Maybe a phoney on Sa Juan Hill also. He spent $80,000 for a ranch owned it about 8 years and lost $16,000 on the deal. Would be kind of an expensive adventure for most of us.

Just want to keep the idea alive.

I've been waiting for some real adamant :!: answers from you ranchers about the best place to meet. Thought you'd be duking it out by now. Or is it Ducking Out?
Anyway, if you are interested what would be your vote? ( I really need to get my plane ticket, like yesterday, so if you can form some sort of agreement it would be nice.)
One point for Deadwood, and perhaps other spots you can think of, is that the 8 hotels run from $49.95 on up.

Another possibility is to have multiple meetings. I'll be driving up from Denver I believe N to Montana then over to ND to do the Civil War thing then south again. Maybe catch some of you enroute? The miles out west are incredible!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I was waiting to see waht you guys decided then I would have to see if I could make it. Hard to plan ahead ranching as plans seem to change here from morning to afternoon. :? :)

Deadwood works for me, if anything will. We're like BMR, kinda go from day to day~but I think we could fit Deadwood in. Or Medora. Medora is a really neat place, but there is no gambling there, so it might be kinda dull for some.

The food is good in Deadwood and not too spendy. Medora food is not anything to write home about and the Pitchfork Buffet is fun, but costly.
If a thunderstorm should come by, they shut the lights off on the night show and it's adios~they don't take any chances!

To Summarize the Votes for SD area so far we have:

JingleBob: anywhere in the Black Hills
feeder: Deadwood
Soapweed: "let me know where"
Oldtimer: "I'll be haying"
ranchwife: Deadwood
Clarence: Ft. Robinson or Medora or a list of other places
Katrina: "save me a seat at the Black Jack Tabel in Deadwood"
the real Jake: "Deadwood... if Rancher comes" (what is he your babysitter, jake?lol :D )
Faster Horses: Deadwood/Medora
nr: where it suits the majority
BMR and a few others?: maybe

Anybody else have comments?

Deadwood or anywhere in the Black Hills works for me too. Don't know how many of you are interested in old farm machinery and stuff. Sometime after the motorcycle rally and before school starts is the Black Hills Steam and Gas Threshing Bee at Sturgis. It is a 3 day event Fri-Sun in late Aug.

Wish I could make it-I've got alot of good buddies in that country-say hi to Dr.John Ismay at the Sturgis Vet Clinic for me-what a character.

Here are some dates to try out with your schedules.
How does Deadwood on the evening of Sep 1 Thursday sound? Keeping in mind Labor Day weekend is Monday Sep 5.
Am I correct in assuming weekdays vrs weekends don't make much difference when it comes to your ranching business? But it might be difficult for those with working spouses... need to know what works for all of you.
I could do Sep 2 Friday or Sep 3 Sat (but are casinoes crazy with business on that Labor Day weekend??)
Or if Labor Day weekend is bad then how would Tues Sep 6 or Wed Sep 7
work? (I have to be back in Denver Sep 10 in the early morning.)

nr, Why don't you post a time and place to meet that fits your vacation plans. It is going to be hard to fit everyone's schedules in. Once we know the time we could probably make adjustments to our own commitments so we could come. Next year we could plan a get-to-gether a night in middle of summer, more might be able to come with a little more notice. Good luck!! I hope to come wherever and whenever it is.

I think feeder has an excellent idea. Otherwise we will be jumping all around and nothing will ever get settled. nr, if you post the days that work for you and you get a lot of reisistance on one day, you could change it by maybe one day. Monday and Tuesdays I have to work. Any other time will work for me.

Thanks nr, for pursuing this!!

Okay. :pretty: Let's meet Thurs Sep 1 at one in the afternoon (easy to remember). That way those of you who live nearby wouldn't have to worry about lodging. It should avoid the Labor Day crowd if that is a problem in the West like it is in the East. If 1PM is NOT a good idea, let me know.
Can anyone recommend a restaurant and I'll reserve a table when you let me know roughly how many are coming. I think that it is really neat that folks from Iowa and Montana are trying to make it!! :D :D :D

That will work for me! Told the hubby I was going with or without him. Put me down for one for sure.

I will try and check on a restaurant. I remember a really good one we ate at once and perhaps Jinglebob will help as well, and anyone else familiar with Deadwood, feel free to give us names!

We get a flyer from Deadwood at the paper I work, so I will look at that too. I will get back to you here, as I hope everyone else does with a good idea where to eat/meet.

Sounds great!
