Ask Van Dyke

:???: ya noticed couple ear tags with horn and ca emblem with bar code but you never noticed if there was a CN on hip?

Nice that r-calfs concerned enuff to help ya out

Well "son of Jan Van Dyke" IF you are indeed who you say you are and IF the is any truth in what you write why not go to the National media with your claims? Get Fox involved and let them get tot the bottom of it.
Get in touch with ex-USDA vet Lester Friedalnder, he has done numerous interviews and would have the media contacts to further your arguement IF IT IS FACT.

IF it isn't.........posting here is nothing more than a cheap inexpensive SDSGA/R-Calf publcity stunt or Macon trying to keep posters interested and the hits up to sell numbers to his sponsors and advertisers.

Sandhukser, Oldtimer and and a few others continually whine and put up a facade trying to use this as an excuse to keep Canadian cattle out. None of this is Canada's fault. Everyone knows the US is still trying desperately to hide BSE and if you truly believe this is part of a USDA coverup it is long past time to expose them once and for all.

The ball is in your court Van Dyke (if that is who you truly are) and if what you say is true make the most of it and expose the rot within the US system.

Seems that Canadian (or any other cattle in the US) should be tracked from country of origin to the plate. The cost is minimal (according to Porker).

Pictures will cause someone or many to loose their jobs as backtracking within the ScoringAg database can always be verified, even to the country ,state and county of origin. To bad the VanDykes were not using the SSI database for their farm records . If the VanDykes have a picture of those cattle then their would be date and time stamps for those pictures. Seems to me that something stinks to high heaven in this scene. Someone mentioned that if the feeders were bought to pasture and feed out, then their had to be starting weights when purchased with papers and sale weights when shipped to Swift with weights. The salebarn of purchase should have duplicate invoices. There is just to much time inbetween when Swift recieved the cattle and when VanDykes put them out to pasture.

Would you please tell me why the story was released on January 15 and we had a check dated to us for the rest of the load and offal on January 19??? Seems like stuff was rolling pretty fast. Especially since nothing had been happening in the previous 47 days. I thought the system had a mandatory 48 hour trace-back tell me why it took 47 days to get something done???

This is pretty sad. Mr. Van Dyke is telling his side of the story, but since it affirms what the R-CALF members here have been saying all along and paints R-CALF in a positive light, he's all but being called a liar!

Why ask questions of or tell us?

The longer this charade continues the more people will doubt your story! It's time to hunt with the big dogs or go sit in the hammock. Approach the media on every front you can and put it out there for all the world to see instead of playing some game on on internet chat site?

If mr Van Dyke will visit with a little, it'll be easy enough to verify his identity. Someone will know him or can call him. As to the authenticity of his observations, that will be evident as well. Lets not jump to conclusions fellas and shout liar just yet. I'm not a member of R-Calf or NCBA or anything else but I think more information never hurts, especially the first hand testimony kind which this could be.

I guess I havn't been paying attention to this story about the calves. When I've crossed the boarder, there was a metal tag clipped in the cattles ear. Do they still do that? If so is there a record of those numbered cattle crossing ? How hard is it in a boarder area to cross across country and not go through a point of entry? Do some just drive them across on adjoining ranches?

   With all the BS and half truths you, Oldtimer and others posted on this site to further the R-Calf agenda and you wonder why someone may even question this?

What's this painting R-Calf in a positve light crap? When I was on here a few days ago you R-Klowns were chirping about R-Calf NOT EVEN BEING INVOLVED!!!!!!!

You're wrong again, Bill. ocm said they were in the background and OT and simply pointed out that they had issue no releases. Mr. Van Dyke confirms this.

Here is your big chance Sandhusker. ARE THEY INVOLVED OR NOT? YES or NO?

RR ,you know we have joked about the black helecopters in the past. Try jumping the border now and it's NO joke. It might be possble for cattle to wander across but living as close as we do we don't even want to think about how we would get something back across the line. Do you think any rancher would want to get caught with Canadian cattle on his place. At least still wearing Canadian ear tags.
I'm not saying that Van Dykes could not have fed those cattle but then someone in the US was breaking the law not the Canadians.

Does anybody know if Nebraska has brand laws? Would those cattle be inspected off truck at the plant? If not what stops cattle being stolen and shipped to packing plants in Nebraska?

Yep, the ear tags from Canada would be the first thing I took out if I was rustling them across the border. I'm not implying that Canadians are breaking the law BMR. Just asking questions. How about the ear clips. There are records on both sides of the border of those numbers where cattle have crossed, is there not?

You are correct RR. That's what the USDA said they used to trace them back to crossing the border the day before they were slaughtered. Van Dyke claims that they owned those cattle since Febuary and had bought them thru a SD sale barn. Even a SD stae vet who has been critical of USDA in the past said the paper trail looked complete to him.

We are not members of R-CALF or of the South Dakota Stockgrowers Association. There were two ways to get the money back for our cattle. One way was to file lawsuit the other way was to play politics. The political game is where R-CALF and SDSG came in after our congresswoman and senators failed. Without there support we probably would still be waiting for a check. Once the media became involved it was a race to see how fast the USDA could settle this and shut us up!!

Could you tell us just how involved R-CALF was in this issue?

We are in contact with R-CALF it seems on a daily basis. We are constantly giving them updates on the case and what is going on in the media. R-CALF itself has not made or given any press releases that I am aware of about this subject. When we contacted them though, they began questioning the USDA officials and made higher contacts than we would have accomplished ourselves. It takes quite a while when you start at the bottom and go up but when you go straight to the top things happen fast going down in the chain of command. The South Dakota Stockgrowers are the ones that had the press releases and are the most outspoken.[/quote]

I can verify that apparently USDA weren't putting much out on this- because the day after Rick Fox's article came out I contacted Taylor Brown of the Northern Ag Network- and they hadn't heard a thing... They talk regularly to the USDA folks and had had several USDA officials on their show in the month and half previous to that...

I sent him a copy of the article and he got back to me that he had talked to Rick-- and that they were going to jump on it- especially to see if they couldn't help find a way to get Mr. VanDyke his money....

Bill, I think you crossed the line by bad mouthing Macon. R-Calfers are used to that attitude but to use that against Macon is pretty low.

Sounds like an easy case if the USDA can provide original documents of those cattles numbers on a sealed trailer and the matching number records at the kill floor a day apart. I've tried to cut those tags out after coming back across. It's easier to cut the ears off than those clips out.

whatever this is the way it's being done makes r-calf and its supporters look desperate. if they have something they should pursue it in a serious, credible way and build a case. if they can't build a case they should drop it because it will only get sillier. vandykes are going to have to show they can trace where their feeders came from in order to substantiate their claims. until then they have nothing.
