If you didn't understand my post, Bill, have somebody interpret for you.

Don't tell me the R-Calf office (406)252-2516, is blocking the calls from your bank! :o

Maybe try your cell.

If I can find a place to feed today where the wind won't blow the hay away I may just hiberate the rest of the day--winds already blowing 30-40mph and they are predicting 60-70 possible by this afternoon...

coyote:
Oldtimer, you better hope no cows blow across the border today,
hang on to your hat

-------------------------------------------------

If they get on some ice they'd sure sail across today...I fed behind a long haystack and some trees next to the buildings, hoping for protection, but I still saw some blowing across the prairie...Probably should have just took out a few extra and set them out...

Neighbor called-- he'd tryed to feed with his mixer- said even in the creekbottom in the brush it wasn't even hitting the ground-- was going to go back and see if he could get his bale bed truck started and just haul a few out and set or roll out in the deep coulees....

I see some of the gusts have got to 58-- and the real wind isn't supposed to hit until later this afternoon

Sandhusker,in this post i'm not commenting on what I think, only on what you said. And as far as intent goes, we can take that subject into eternity with (you said, he said, she said,) the fact is it happened and the responsibility for their action is still theirs. Looks to me like R-Calf is the one here that is not informed. I live with the philosophy of (if you don't want to go to Chicago, don't get on that train).

Fine, but the fact is also that R-CALF never pushed for a $30/head tariff. They wanted action, yes, but they never proposed the tariff you speak of.

If that is the way you want to look at things, you can say NCBA wanted producers to lose $175/head. They encouraged USDA to deny private testing which kept the door to Japan closed, which in turn cost us all $175/hd (NCBA's very own estimate). Are they responsible for their actions? I can ride the same train.

Sandhusker, I'll ask you a hypothetical question.

If, R-Calf was informed ahead of time, that the suit they filed, carried a $30.00 per head tariff,if and when they would be successful in their suit. R-Calf would have then said NO,we don't want to file the suit.

Cattle producers today are not consensus of the chains that bind them.

I can't tell you for sure as I was not in on the decision making at the time. Anything I have to offer is pure speculation. My GUESS is they would of decided that wouldn't fix the problem and would of pursued other avenues.

Cleaning out the office tonite. Found a marketing statement for a load to Dakota City. Kill date was 10/18/99. The dumping duty removed was 5.63%, which worked out to 49 bucks a head on that load. Seems to me the duty started out around 3% and was almost 6% by the time it was deemed unfair and removed. Then r-crap just went and hid under a rock till BSE came along.

Sandy, I thank you for your conformation. Although some people still won't believe it. I also apologize as a US cattle producer for bringing a senseless financial burden to your door. Are we not all in the cattle business, for the same reasons.

Well then, we just as well throw open our borders to Brazil, Argentina, Austrailia, whoever. After all, aren't we all in the cattle business for the same reasons? You think we ought to do that, Ben?

Come to think of it, aren't all the Mexicans and other Central Americans just trying to make a living for the same reasons we are? Why is there such a thing as illegal alien? We should just open up our border and holler, "Welcome Amigos!" We're all in this together, aren't we?

Thanks Sandy for posting your information. No doubt Sandhusker or another of the Klanners will try discredit or twist that as well.

Well Sandhusker, it looks like my statements you scoffed at weren't so far off after all?  Maybe the girls did get through to the R-Klan office and you simply didn't like what they found out for you.

Yes I did get something from the AFF today and I'll post it just for you and your leftist, protectionist friends Sandhusker.

Now you're back to making the statement?     Does that mean I'm not a liar anymore?

Sandhusker,It is not the Canadians,Australians,Mexicans,Argentineans or the Brazilians that are taking away our cattle industry, it's Tyson/IBP-Swift/Con-Agra and Cargill they are organized in every country that supplies a surplus of red meat. Just look at a world globe, you can clearly see that the Asian markets are more economically serviceable from Australia than from the US or Canada. The only reason why we are not exporting beef to the UK, is the UK will not except beef that has been implanted with growth hormones, that market is now being seviced from Argentina and Brazil. The beef industry has become a global industry controlled by three multi-national packers. Tyson/IBP,Swift/Con-Agra and Cargill.

We have built fences with iron gates around other countries that produce a surplus of beef. Why, we live in a global economy if we like it or not. We say that we stand up for the cattle industry, but we don't. There are fewer and fewer of us every year. We can't wait for government changes; when has that ever worked? We need to stand alone, without government intervention and take back control of our industry, world wide.

Ben, "The beef industry has become a global industry controlled by three multi-national packers. Tyson/IBP,Swift/Con-Agra and Cargill. "

I"ll agree with you 100% on that one. Part of their business plan is to arbitrage beef on a world-wide basis. Throwing open our doors facilitates that. You recognize the power of the packers, yet you advocate trade policies that play into their hands. Again I ask, do you think we should open up completely to the South Americans as well?

Sandy said her load was going to Dakota City. Guess who's plant that was?

Sandhusker, we don't have to throw open our doors to anyone, NAFTA,EFTA,CFTA,EU,GATT,FTAA and the WTO have allready opened them for us. Yes, I recognize the power of the multi-national packers and that power is devastating, farmers and ranchers world-wide.

Sandhusker, the last thing those packers want the cattle proudcers to do is organize, read my last post to you again, the packers are organized in every country we (the proudcers) are not.

I,don't advocate any trade policies. I advocate taking back control of our cattle industry.

IBP, owned the plant at Dakota City, Nebraska in 1999
