So far as the Dixie Chicks, I honestly don't remember any whining. I remember the uproar with Toby Keith (speaking of people who should keep their politics to themselves, eh?) but I don't really remember anything else.

Wow. You really are lost. I usually try not to post negative comments, but good Lord, where have you been? The ashamed to be American, ashamed to be from TX comments didn't make it to NE?

By supporting these left-wing lunatics you're undermining the core values that 95% of the people in ag believe in. Maybe you should do some more research other than record sales.

Phil

I don't think they said they were ashamed to be American or Texan..but I do remember they said they were ashamed of George Bush and that he came from Texas!

how about deporting the Dixie Chicks when we deport everybody else
Problem is I can't think of a place far enough to send them
Middle of Iraq comes to mind

They might have a change of heart then
:) :) :)

The ashamed to be American, ashamed to be from TX comments didn't make it to NE?
No, I guess i never heard that one. Got a link?
Like kola, the only one I remember was where Maines said she was embarassed Bush was from Texas.

You like to pose as a tolerant compassionate individual, but don't tell me you don't also like a good fight. I tried to let this deal slide, but woke up tossing and turning and mad, and realized I wouldn't be able to sleep until I spoke my piece.
Actually, I didn't realize this was going to be such a big deal. there's a reason I only put it in the coffee shop.
I figured it was rather like my dislike of Clint Eastwood movies; I'm not real impressed with his stuff, but I hardly lie awake at night praying for his demise.

Like Tim H, I've heard every song they ever recorded that I could lay my hands on and I never remember Johnny, or June for that matter, ever dissing this country or our president. How about giving us an example?
You'll have to point out where I said anything of the sort.
If you'll look back, my only point with regards to Johnny Cash was that he didn't hesitate to share his opinions. And that his music is full of his opinions.

wouldn't spend a nickel on anyone who would slam our president and our country in a time of war. If what they said didn't bother you, that's sad. It bothered me.
I guess I don't remember saying anything of that sort, either. Actually, it did bother me at the time.
But I see it as more of a tempest in a teapot and hardly worth carrying a grudge for three years. :?

Truth be told, I'm willing to be that most of the people who are so bent out of shape that they complained about the prez in a time of war, wouldn't have thought it any big deal if they'd complained about Clinton during one of his nation-building exercises. I smell another double standard...

Hired Mans Wife, I think you're here just to pick a fight....The way you address your husband shows that you are dominating, overbearing, and get a real kick out of arguing....Lady you have serious issues that maybe you need to address with some counsiling...
We are family here and you knew this type of thing would not go over very well and that was your agenda. Shame on you...

Huh? Dixie Chicks are popular. They are country. They have a new CJD about to be released. Some people like their music.

Shall we ban all controversial subjects?

Don't read posts on subjects you object to.

Shame on you for immature psychoanalyzing other members of the Forum. And commenting on their personal life in spiteful, mean way.

Ugh. Ugly. GOLDEN RULE.

".....They have a new CJD about to be released."

Is that one of them "Freudian Slips" there , R2???? :D :D

Being paranoid seems to be the Rule of Thumb today. Must be the change of seasons or pull of the moon....... :???: :???: :???:

Oh...now Tim H..that was crappy!

Crappy???!!!! By that, do you mean "turd-like"??? :D

Never mind ,Mike.

I'm sorry but I just couldn't resist. I hope R2 knows that I'm only yankin' her chain. :)

I gotta agree with Katrina and txag on this one, folks!!! :? :?
This posting should never have been put on "COFFEE SHOP", but on "POLITICAL BULL" instead.....let's all remember that "COFFEE SHOP" is where we all to exchange jokes, poetry, pictures and HAVE A GOOD TIME!!!!!!    :!:

OK here it goes ( im sure ill be dodgin punches after this) :p

First off i dont think it was the "Chicks" political opinion that sold a few million records to begin with, :? :? :? Ya got 3 damm good lookin gals that can play intruments and perform\ entertain to a wide aray of people.
They climbed to the top basied on talent.

I seen the first video and herd the song that fixen to be released on ther new CD, I payed close attention to the lyrics, I have to say i admire the gurl, Shes stickin by her guns, she aint gonna change her mind just because most folks dont agree wif her politics, when most people in show biz would be backpeddleing just to save ther reputation. In the closin scene of the video it show Natile being takin in for surgery to have her spine removed, I guess this is so she caint stand up or fight for what she belives in. If thats the case, should all that have differnt political veiws be disemspined?? ( i hope thats a real word) what a boring country this would be if we all thot alike, or thot all like you do  Or just because these gals come from blue grass roots do they HAVE TOO express the same opinions as the people that buy ther CDs..????...If that the case,
perhaps lets bring Stalin/Marx/Lenin ideals into play, then we can all think alike.

As far as Toby??? in my opinion 911 was the best thing that ever happend to his career. He got a chance to sing some patriotic songs and smooze up to the trops to further his fame... all i got to say to Toby is... get a Hair Cut~!!!!! and shave! ya look like a hippie~! oops... didnt hippies protest viet nam?? its a good think he can sing huh?

All i got to say to the Chicks... you go gurls, I wouldnt kick any or all 3 outa my bed  But while yer ther.. just sing me a song. not discuss politics.

In closin im not really a big fan of all chicks music and im even a lesser fan of ther political veiws. I just admire anybody that stands up for what they believe in and wont back down. I think thats what this country was founded on. A wise man once said " A Patriot, is a man( or woman) that feels he ( or she )has to defend him ( or her) self from his own government.

OK Erin, since you morphed this thread into antiwar dissent, Klinton, nation building and hypocricy. Why don't you leftistas complain about the troops in Bosnia that are there for the same purpose as US troops in Iraq (now) eventhough they're there 12 years after Klinton promised them out. WTF is the commie "exit strategy"

The only reason you leftistas object to troop casualties is you can't spit on dead soldiers. They need to be walking for the Dixie Chicks (modern day Hanoi Janes) to spit on them.

Soapweed is perfectly on target, you started this thread championing the Dixie Chicks because they share your socialist agenda. They aren't patriots, and if you are the Erin that used to post on here some time ago, you are not a patriot either.

For the record, Bush deposed Stallinist Huessein and freed millions - FOR SHAME!!

We've gone from Country Music chart listing...to Stalinist rulers...to Socialism.... Vietnam war....to jokes about a horrible disease!!!

HOLY SMOKES!!

HMW just posted the info on the charts....everyone else twisted this deal. So don't blame her just because YOU don't like her taste in music. I don't like the Chicks either...just because I really don't care for 'girl bands' of any kind.

But at least they don't back down from their stance...surely you got to admit that takes guts to stand up for what you believe in when others are against you. Hmmmm , isn't that what King George W. says??????

Get out people...see the world....meet different folks than just those @ the feed/seed store. Not everyone is a Commie or 'out to get ya'....calm down.

We've all got different opinions and likes and dislikes...that's what makes the world go 'round. Seems every posts turns into a pissin' match lately. Must be the phase of the moon.....

OK Erin, since you morphed this thread
Actually, *my* thread was nothing more than the fact that the Dixie Chicks seem to have weathered their storm and come back strong. I thought it was a fluff topic, which is why I put it in the Coffee Shop.
Like I said, I had no idea there were this many people who spent this much time actively hating them.

I just admire anybody that stands up for what they believe in and wont back down
Well said, HorseShoer. I think people tend to forget that around here sometimes. That you can disagree with someone's opinion and still respect their convictions.

LOL On bull session there are guys on there that take a position, dig in and would die a long hard death before they would admit they were wrong :D
Actually these lower threads are pretty mild compared to bull session although I havnt been reading bull session lately so I dont really know whats going on there lately.
Ian Tyson is the coolest guy out there! :D
I would not buy a Dixie Chick CD because of there political views.

Faster horses said:
OOPS, Ian Tyson might be a talented singer, but the folks here have long ago decided he is arrogant and their feelings don't run much in his favor as a person.

I wish you well on this one!
I have never actually met him although I have seen him at cuttings and he owns land on both sides of me. But I have heard a lot of people say that about him. But so far nobody has gave me an example of why they feel that way about him.
Guess he is like a lot of guys when they get some money behind them?
Anyway I like his music :D

I'll tell you why people don't like Ian Tyson.Greg and I have never been to a performance of Ians that hes played the whole time he was supposed to,hes gotten rude with the crowds,or his favorite seems to be not showing up if he doesn't want to.And thats the tip...that being said Greg still thinks hes a great cowboy singer and will continue to buy his CD's...me...nope!
