Urgent question about Micotil

The other day the vet left me one dose of Micotil for my larnygitis calf to be given today. When I put the needle under the skin and pressed on the plunger, the needle exploded all over me and the two guys helping. One got some in his eye and all over his face, including his lips. I got it all over my face and lips also, but I'm not worried about myself because it was my fault. I'm just wondering if it's going to affect the guy who got it in his eye and on his lips. Both of us have been spitting constantly because we've been subconsciously licking our lips trying to get rid of it. Even after washing, we both could still taste it. We should both be fine, right? (I know, I'm being paranoid. :roll: )
 
You should contact your vet immediately. Micotil can be fatal to humans if injected by accident. Read this website:

I won't use it because it is so dangerous.
 
Well, I wasn't keen on using it, either, but that's all they left me. OK, we'll be fine, right? It wouldn't have absorbed into our bodies through our lips and his eye, right? As you may have noticed, I'm a tad bit panicky right now.

I would verify that through your vet Shelly.

I have gotten the greasy substance on my hands years ago from the fly tags, and it made me feel funny.
 
Well, I'll be the lone stupid wolf here and say if you're fine now, you'll probably be fine. I think it affects the heart, and real soon. I don't think it hurts you if you get it on you. I'm still alive and I've had it on me before.
 
Let me ask a question: why do people use micotil with the risks of accidental injections? Once I learned about the risks, we won't use it.
 
I don't touch the stuff either.. I had a bottle that I bought, small one, Ened up giving it to the vet because I was too muhc of a coward to use it.. I used it once or twice but I was so paranoid about it and seeing my baby girl sleeping one day after I used it I just couldn't bring myself to take the risk, however slight, again... The other antibiotics, be it LA-200, Nuflor, Baytril or some others that we have used tend to do the trick I am in time anyways...

I would be less worried about the stuff that was on your fingers Shelly and more worried about the stuff that got in your eyes/mouth as the mucous membranes will take stuff in faster than your fingers...
 
I use it for footrot in bulls as it doesn't take a lot and if it don't work, nothing will.

But I am real, real careful when I use it.

Supposed to be something as effective, and less costly out there now. I'll have to get some.
 
Shelly any medication aborbs through the skin,this ones dangerous...get to your Dr.

Friggin vet should have administered it himself :?


Gregs brother ignored pour-on advice about using gloves and became violently ill from it
 
This is very serious. I know of an individuadual that had a heart attack. After a little investigation the doctor foud that had carried around a Micotil bottle in his shirt pocket. They think that the residue on the top of the bottle may have been enough to induce the heart attack. Luckily he lived to talk about it.

We use Micotil for foot rot as well and have found it works about as good as anything. We try to make sure the animal is constrained in the chute pretty well so it can't budge, and kind of shy away using it is a pasture roping situation unless that is the only way its going to get done.
