I have always been told purebred angus are homozygous polled, so any cross with a purebred angus should be polled. Some of resulting calves will carry the horned gene(heterozygous polled). Today with our knowledge of DNA there are always mutations going on and always have been. I really doubt...
Soapweed your statement that angus are polled(homozygous) is a true statement. But the statement that some Hereford angus crosses will have horns is not correct. The polled gene is dominant and all purebred Hereford, purebred angus F1s will be polled. As for a polled Hereford taking the horns...
I guess I should have been a little more blunt in first post. Its not the cattle's fault if they succeed, its not the breed or bloodline, its the guy making the selections and the good lord. To those who choose to slam an entire breed, maybe should seek a little more knowledge.
Going to add my 2 cents worth and that's about all it is worth. This may come as a total shock to some but a black hide does not make them all good, and neither does red with a white face make them all bad. Generalizing breeds on this site gets really absurd at times. I pay the AHA $100/ year...
I was not in any way implying anything about your integrity I LUV HEREFORDS. I have a herd bull from the Miles City station that I can walk up to and scratch his back and that is the truth too, which bull yours or mine represents the stations genetics? I have a great deal of respect and...
This seems to have turned into Hereford breeders bashing Hereford breeders, one poster in particular. It would seem to me that it would be far better for the breed if we could list the attributes of particular lines. I have been raising registered, primarily Line 1 bred Herefords for 30 years...
I agree that Colemans and Thorson would be good places to look and would also mention the Miles City station. All of these places have cattle that are very functional plus the linebreeding will give you an extra kick on a cross.
Probably could find just as good of bulls that are not near as fat closer to home. We have used some Holden bulls that were no better than some of the local bulls at half the price. There are alot of small breeders that have excellent Line 1 genetics.
Alot of cow makin sires in his pedigree, pretty elite line one genetics and no 9126,gets my vote. He looks very good too, like the freckles and pigment.
Been using 605J for a long time. They are pretty good balers. Belts are turned so you can see in the chamber. I am using a Ford 5000 to bale with now. They have a monitor to control the twine arms, it has a plug to go to the baler. The monitor is hooked to a live wire on tractor. They...
Line 1 herefords are hard to beat. Yours really look the part. What is the goggle eyed calf? What are the herd sires? Was really interested in 6050 and 320 when they sold.
