    Feels Good!

I have dial up and just started laughing because it takes awhile for the picture to download and I thought to myself I sure hope there is a picture coming or Mike is one brave man!

    implants

I guess I am the only believer in implants at branding time. We do it with Ralgro and it would be really hard to get us to quit. This year for the first time we didn't do our heifer calves and there was a big difference in their weights at weaning. The heifers were lighter than they had been...

    awkward birth

Sometimes if you are not right there to watch things the ole biddy will drop him on his head. If the necks bends back and the calf lays on it, they will suffocate in a matter of seconds. Sometimes it pays to be lucky.

    Lutalyse shot in heifers

Wyoming Rancher- did you notice a higher amount of opens or any other negative trade off? It seems too simple of a system to sync. the heifers without any bad things. Don't get me wrong the simplier and yet effective the system the better I like it. JTG

Angus Bull sales '07 vs. '06

I have been to a few bull sales this year and the lucky ones are those that sell all their bulls, no matter what the average was. A lot of producers are taking home a lot of their bulls or selling them at pound price. It doesn't even matter the breed. Around here we are in a severe drought...

    Lutalyse shot in heifers

I was wondering about the results people were having with giving a shot of lutalyse and then turning the heifers in with the bulls. This would be without feeding mga. How many bulls do you need as opposed to natural breeding. Should you increase your bulls to heifers ratio. Also does it...

    roping a deer

SW- you just made my day, even my week. I would have loved to be a witness to that. Funny stuff, funny stuff

    Question for everyone????

It takes more than hard work anymore. Without some help in getting started wether it be a parent, family member, or retiring farmer/rancher, it is in my opinion almost impossible to get started on your own without another source of outside income. The expense of running an ag operation is...

    4 Wheelers

GO HONDA ALL THE WAY! They run forever on routine maintainance and always start. We use them in the cold and we have never had a honda that wouldn't start. We use them A LOT!! Just got a new 4x4 Foreman last spring and already have 2500 miles on it in less than a year (no road miles all...

    schaff Angus Valley

Did anyone go to the sale on Saturday? IF so, how did it go. They have great bulls from top to bottom but can get pretty spendy for the average cowman. I bought a couple last year for the first time and really, really like them!

    Stupid Heifer Syndrome

xylacine? Is that the same stuff as promace? We have used promace before with mixed results. Sometimes they come out of it and take the calf and others I think just get addicted to the drug and never do claim the calf. Ha

Does Anybody Have Advice on Bead Cutting

You have to be real careful about using chop saw blades in an angle grinder. I have a friend that did that and it flew apart and cut up his leg really bad. They might be fine for cutting things but don't use them to grind things.

    lagrand

I guess lagrands are going to do fall calving at Hoff's and sell 18 mo bulls. I have heard Doug and Molly will be leaving in the next year. Then lagrands will be one their own. This weekend they are having a preview of the bulls and a free lunch. The sale is in a couple of weeks.

    whitestone widespread

Alabama, we cull very hard on our cows for disposition. We are firm believers in having a quiet herd. Not necessarily those who love to be scratched but the kind of cow that is easy to handle and gentle loving mothers. Northern rancher- your description of those ext mothers is very...

    whitestone widespread

I was just to a bull sale yesterday where they sold some widespread sons. They are really nice but I talked to a friend who used some and he said that he got rid of them because of their bad attitudes. In fact they were down right hard to handle and if he tried to get them alone in the corrals...

    Squeeze Chutes

we have a Pearson Chute.made in Thedford, NE. We absolutely love it! Self catch it squeezes both sides and is hinged at top and bottom. It works way better than those that hinged only at the bottom. Never buy a Powder River. Unless you always like reaching to the sky just to reach the...
