Need advice on starting in Cattle

There is a guy on utube called just a few acres and he has hundreds of videos. Hopefully you can find the ones that he is talking about profit and what to expect. I for see farmers markets and direct marketing of your beef and other stuff. In my area of Alberta what you are trying to do with...

    that wool vest.

My neighbors bought a John Deere chore tractor. Has made in America stickers on it but engine was made in India or Pakistan and I think all rest of parts are China. In Alberta they sell made in Canada squeeze chute. Whole thing is made in south America and sort of assembled here. Name Brand's...

When did you start tagging your cows?

Years ago if u tagged some people would make fun of you. Call you ear ear tag outfit. Idea being you should know all your 200 some black cows without needing a number. I started tagging when traceability kicked in after b.s.e. I think you gain when you sell pairs. Buyers know they are a real...

    Hunting Elk

I used to guide hunters. I'm not sure if I like industry or not. Accessing good land to go hunting is basically impossible if your from town and don't have deep pockets. I'm talking about southern Alberta. Basically no rifle ranges and so much hassle and expense. If a young person from town...

    Swamp hay

Trucking rates are through the roof. $5 a kilometer or fifty dollars a short ton. Then MT super b loads have to be lighter again because of their weight laws. Then exchange on dollar. Facebook is just full of scammers. Feels like everybody is in a panic. I guess this years of drought is...

    Swamp hay

L.A. Lower Alberta About two hours north of Montana. I suspect there won't be any straw either. I see guys doing wheat straw up in small square's because not enough there for big round baler. A lot of hay was drone in small square's as well for same reason and I see them advertised for ten...

    Cow water

Wow thats deep! In my area you have to case off the crappy ground water for first hundred feet or so and you have to go 300 to 400 feet to either hit good usable water or have a dry $70,000 hole. Very risky because easy more likely to be dry. More and more hauling water from community wells...

    JD 535 blues...

Actually if linkage was out of adjustment then you would think it would do it all the time? If its not a micro switch that trips it to bale whatever does trip it would have to be whats doing it intermittently???

    JD 535 blues...

I can't really remember the ins and outs of these balers anymore but I think Silver is right. Sounds like it has to be linkage adjustment or faulty valve. What I do remember about 535s were they had a nice price. New balers are stupid expensive now. The roller bearings were awful to replace. I...

    JD 535 blues...

535s if I'm remembering right had micro switch to initiate tie process but you also have a mechanical rope pull mechanical secondary mechanism that you could use. Example to tie a core bale when field was finished. I'm going from from memory. These balers used to be everywhere but old enough you...

    JD 535 blues...

Ive got a new Holland baler now but I used to be great at fixing those 535s but honestly I dont really remember. Was years ago and fixed a lot of other stuff since then. I do remember if I drove to fast or if it was to bumpy the bumps would trip some of the micro switches . Could this be what's...
