Minimum wage is what many live on. It is in part due to the fact that employers are paying poorly. Some people only get a very small raise just a matter of cents. Wow instead of 5.25 somebody gets 5.50 an hour.

How about ranchers. A lot of them around her pay 1600 a month gross no insurance. How do you support a family on that plus pay 500 bucks a month for health insurance? Part of the problem to me lies in the fact that employers aren't paying well enough.

Some people are poor even before they make babies. May I suggest to you trying to live on 5.25 an hour 40 hours a week. Pay for rent, utilities, and health insurance then get back to me about how well you are faring.

We pay almost more then we can afford now. It makes me cringe about the choices we will have to make in the upcoming years. When we went to see our accountant he suggested we raise our deductible as high as we could see that we could pay off just to make our premiums more affordable.

I don't know anyone that supports a family on minimum wage, and I live in one of the poorest counties in KS. But there is still jobs far above minimum wage.

When I look around our town the only ones making minimum wage are teens at McDonalds and Sonic. And a rare woman that is doing it to supplement her husbands good paying job.

Minimum wage jobs are for teens and losers in life. Anyone can do better than that if they wish to. Many people that do work at minimum wage jobs do so because they can throw them away. If they are tired they stay home and get fired, if they want to go party on a Friday night then miss work. They always know if McDonalds fires them Sonic will hire them tomorrow.

CRM...........I think you hit the area of the problem.

It is not the minimum wage worker...........most could care less about ins, besides those new wheels and stereo for their car are more important.

The guy who is making well above min wage most generaly get ins with the job.

The problem lies mainly in the small businessman who most likely is in business with no employees or a small no of employees. HSA were a nice start. Tax breaks would help for those that fall in this category.

I know around here we help needy families at times with food.
The thing you find in delivering this food and necessities is most of the time it is to a person who likes to drink, smoke, has numerous dogs, has numerous horses not related their work, satelite TV and radio, fancy cars....etc. I know of numerous people who got an EIC in their taxes.....so what did they do..........most went and committed to more car payments or a Big screen TV
Very seldom do you find someone who is down and out without poor choices on their part. However you do not deprive them of food even though choices probably got them to where they are. They have kids who are innocent.........so you do what you can to help.

:agree: More times than not, the problems are created by the inability to prioritize and distinguish between luxuries and necessities. Nothing pisses me off more than being in line behind someone at the grocery counter who is buying a carton of smokes with cash and their groceries with food stamps - and I think we've all seen that too many times.

Evidentally you don't live in a rural enough area. Many in this area are trying to make ends meet with minimum wage jobs. These are hard working good people. The problem lies in the fact few jobs are available at all and so people do what they have to, in order to try and survive. I'm not saying this is everyone's situation but you act as if only low lifes have to live on minimum wage and that is so wrong.

In the community I live near if you aren't a teacher or work at the hospital don't expect to great of hourly wage. Even the state and county jobs here that have great benefits pay around ten bucks an hour. With the rising costs of basic needs and fuel ten bucks isn't much anymore either.

I guess you would classify the ranch help around here as low life too. 1600 gross a month for the hours they put in is far below minimum wage. Plus I wonder how you expect them to pay for health insurance on that? Kinda hard to think that they are responsible for their insurance needs when the boss is complaining about cattle prices and what he can't afford driving his 4 door 35,000 to 40,000 pickup and wife is in her suburban, excursion, expedition, or other big fancy suv.

The ranchers you talk about are RISK TAKERS. You should get some reward for taking risks. I think they should pay their help well too, but it's kind of like housing, most pay what is the NORMAL for that area.

And in our area of the country they are begging for people to work and
can't find anyone. Restaurants have had to go to being open less days.
Grocery stores can find barely anyone to work. Actually, any town I have been to lately there are signs all over that the businesses are looking for help. Sign at the Dairy Queen, "HELP WANTED: $11 per hour."

What I see is the young people in the work force don't care if they show up to their job or not. The employer needs the help so bad, the young people get away with not being responsible.

One young unmarried mother of 3, got a job and stayed up most of the night before her first day. She didn't bother to show up for work. And she isn't one bit remorseful about it. After all, she's on welfare...

And I don't mean to pick on young people here, but you must admit there are several of them that don't have the work ethic of the generations that have passed before.

Faster Horses
And in our area of the country they are begging for people to work and can't find anyone.

I went to a local electrical supply.. they had a help wanted sign.. stopped by home depot.. eight positions available..

I think in rural areas the jobs are the first to leave when times get tough and they are the last to recover.. (if the jobs come back at all)...

but for much of the nation... crappy low paying jobs are plentiful..

and ones such as I listed want a bit more then a drugged out burger flipper.. so they pay a bit better.. and offer benefits..

you might not like what Aplusmtn said or how he said it, but the fact is (with the exception of rural areas and teens), more people rely on welfare then work ethics when it comes to min wage jobs..

You can't help people who won't help themselves.

Look at the job opportunities on Craig's list. Those folks can move or starve. They'll choose to starve. That's fine since it is their choice. The only thing I don't like is that they blame everyone else.

Difference is Aplus and i will type slow so you understand ....Kola never says negative things towards me or call me names as you do towards her. After all the abuse you send her way and to other women on this site. you try to make nice with them.....I think your the worst kind of person out there. You have weak character and all you do is put down others that disagree with you...You take shots at people and then you try to suck up to them afterwards...You probably sit around your kitchen table with the local female gossips and drink coffee all day long. Or at the very least that's how you come across on here...

I guess Kola just agreed with me...Your just a sad little boy,I pity you .....

I could see how the extra letter in the word could confuse you...I will thank you for the tip on the job applications.Funny how you judge so many people but never yourself..I pity you...

PS.You and the local girls enjoy your coffee and smokes around the kitchen table today.....I am sure you will find others to belittle,so you can feel good about yourself...

  you are such a hypocrite and are just plain clueless.

1st I view every thread in its own entity not who wrote it, I have disagreed with conservatives before and I have agreed with Liberals. If I fight with Mrs. Greg about one subject I will agree with her on others. A few times I have agreed with Kolan for example me and Kolan have pretty much same views on Gun control. I am not going to disagree with her on gun control just because I disagree with her on the Iraq war.

I thought that was what Character was all about.

You libs are so funny. You can not even see how much the Conservatives follow what they feel is right and not a bunch of neocons like OT would have you to believe. Many approve of Bush on the war, but disapprove of him on spending and illegal immigration issues. Many of us are not excited about McCain even though he is the Republican nominee. We do not pick one side and stick to it, we follow what is right and the conservative way of things.

Even if I disagree with Mrs. Greg or Kolan I will acknowledge and agree when that little bit of Conservative thinking that is deep inside them comes out. To do anything otherwise would be of low Character, and would just be picking on them.

Now for the hypocrite side of YOU, you have called me names and then said good things about me, you have called me names and even wish I did not (Excist) but then said you would show me Canada if I ever came up there. Come on be consistent in your thinking and typing! And quit sucking up to me!
