    handling & feeding cake

I've used the old fertilizer spreader deal. An over center drop box is a must as the ground drive floor chain doesn't move fast enough and the ribbon of feed is too thin. The trick is in keeping the thing on if your ground is rough at all, not much clearance. Some guys use mini bulk bags...

Did anyone notice the ad at the top of the page?

Today I have a diamond store on one side and money mart cash advance on the other! I don't think either would deal with me.

    power was out last night

Elk require a whole NEW rifle For sure you need a new rifle. Elk are tough and if you shoot one with your old thirty-thirty you might strain your barrel! Not worth the chance. I pulled a moose tag this year and NEEDed to buy a Ruger no. 1 in 9.3x74r.

    Oats for hay?

Oats are tough as hell. You should get lots of regrowth, I'd leave it. Good luck getting it up.

    NH 664

When this happens I bypass the twine tensioner in the twine box. Seems some bales of twine are tighter, especially when starting a new spool. Not really a fix, but it works for me.

    Growing Bull

Nice bunch of cattle there George. Good bull too. You like his pedigree enough to keep daughters, he bred everything up and his calves are growing like gangbusters. With good cows and your feed resources I doubt a high dollar bull would pay for himself. I find bulls are expensive or more...

    almost a con game

My wife and kids came home from the city one day with a pet hamster, and a 40 pound bag of wood shavings. I'm not a fan of rodents and she countered my "really?" statement with how the kids wanted it so bad...... She was a bit embarrassed when I said the rat didn't bother me as much as the...

    One more day

The bus never ran again today. If it's 40 below or worse the school busses are cancelled. Kids love it, grown-ups with chores not so much.

    Feeding oats to bred heifers

I like to have some light oats/screenings to start my calves. I plunk out a creep feeder full of the stuff and rarely have one over load. Most don't even get loose. Pretty bulky feed, don't think you would hurt them @10 lbs. Wouldn't bother processing it, if they're screenings they are pretty...
