    aborting heifers

How much of a mess would I make if I needled 4-5 month bred heifers? Would a shot of estrumate and dex do it? Good bred heifers are selling @ about $1/pound or so it seems. Mine are too small for most and I think they'd dollar out better open. Crazy idea or no?

    question

I had a yearling stealing milk from cows so I put a quiet wean blab on her. It fixed the problem but eventually will have to come out. Will she go back to stealing? Been a couple weeks now.

    spring run off

The Saskatchewan river system is sending a lot of water our way. They opened some gates on our local hydro electric station a couple days ago. By the look of these pictures from 15 miles upstream they maybe should have started spilling a little sooner?

    bovine suicides

Burnt posted about the loss of a heifer in a hay feeder, pretty common occurance I'm afraid. What are some of the more bizarre situations you've seen cattle get themselves into? I was going away for a while and thought I'd swing through the cows before leaving. Got a small working corral with a...

    Boy's first pup

Deer season is underway here and my 11 year old is wishing his life away (got to be 12 to hunt). We posted at a dead cow and he zipped this guy with his .22. Another 10 or 15 and we'll be in the money [/url]

    All worked up.....

....and no place to go hunting. Got a call yesterday to take my brother in law to find an elk. Yesterday was the last day of archery season. 5 o'clock he calls and cancels, bow trouble. Well I'm all dressed up so decide to go out anyway. Walked through a ravine in the mist and topped out to...

    schistosomus reflexus

Sounds like something Harry Potter would say but I think we had one this morning. Moved a cow in close last night. She was big, early and kind of skinny, twins? She was cleaning off a dead calf this morning that was premature. Looked for the twin and found a big mass, three big bags of "meat"...

    Gomer bulls

Here's my idea. I've got some heifers to breed and sell, and to differentiate them from the other gazzillion being bred I might guarantee them A.I. bred. Would sync and breed them and run a gomer bull with a chin ball marker for a few weeks to mark the repeats. I've used a 'juiced up' open cow...

Would you buy a twin bull?

Got one bought today on order, quite a bit under sale average. His individual performance is just ok, was a twin. Epd's pretty good, 3.9,60.2,91.9,20.7. Horned Hereford. Do you think a p.m. would reach NR? I'd enjoy his opinion.

    Henry Kelsey awards

Our home town hosted the Sask wildlife federation awards night on Saturday. They displayed some of the top scoring trophies taken last hunting season. Incredibly impressive and well worth the price of admission if it is ever hosted near you. NR, that Loon Lake elk was there and it's a HOG...

    spring mud fling'n

The wife and I were heading in to a banquet last night when I noticed the neighbors field all tore up with quad tracks. Sure enough a mile down the road they're sitting in my hay field hav'n some beers while a drowned bike is drying out. I got out of the van and one of the pr#@^s yelled "what...

    Where did February go?

And who cares? Been a cold and miserable month here. Still -38 here this morning. I feel sorry for those that turned bulls out thinking March 1st is springtime.

    mangey coyotes

Seems to be more mangey coyotes around this year again. Found a trodden one in with the yearlings today and another crawling around in the bale yard. This cold snap will bring some a mercifull end. Do you have mange in the South? Does it eventually kill them or do they run around naked for ever?
