    wood heat

Does anyone on this board have any experience or know anyone with a outdoor large round bale furnace. I've seen articles in the past on them and have always been tempted to try building one. Should provide pretty cheap heat if you used straw or some other crop residues.

    Significant Rain Event

We have gotten about an 1" of rain since last night here in southern Phillips county, looks like more light showeres all day. Wow what a change from 6 weeks ago. Looks like it will go down as a wet fall in northern Montana. Sure glad the temps weren't cold enough for snow! We'll take the rain!!

    &^*^%% Global Warming

We got .75" of rain this morning , almost forgot what mud was. :D Suppose to be more tonight and tomorrow. And hopefully we are done with the dry lightening for the year and can relax!

    RAIN

Boy that was a bad lightening storm here too, it was close to one of those that lite up the sky constantly. Fortunately (whew) we had enough rain to put out any fires. Hope we don't have any that spring up today that were set last night and then knocked down with the rain. Cowpies and sagebrush...

    FIRE!!!!!

OT, Things seemed ok today, no big smoke so we stayed home and harvested winter wheat. I heard too that Jack lost some of his corrals and some sheds. Also heard a report that some cattle were lost as well. The fire was so big and long that we didn't even get over on that side of it. So only...

    FIRE!!!!!

Yes, the fire started just east of the Content road, but by the time we mopped up all along the sw side we were right down to the larb creek road in Valley county. Really a huge contingency of people on the larb creek road!! Well another day, I'm ready for fall and cooler weather. I wish it...

    FIRE!!!!!

Just got in a little while ago from fitting a big fire on the Phillips/Valley county line. It was within about 3 miles of some of our summer grazing. It was a bad one with winds gusting 30+ mph this afternoon. The guys that were up ahead said the fire was running faster than they could drive...

    Fire at Valentine

I sure hope they can get it under control soon, I was just down to Valentine around the 1st of June, very pretty around that area. Friendly people too, just like in most ranching communities.

Pick where the smoke is coming from Liberty Belle

Yep OT, that wall of smoke looks pretty impressive from here south of Malta too. Looks like there are 3 fires right on the CMR by the UL bend. They are about 30 miles south of me but look big from here. Really to rough and remote to get any machinery into them. At least they won't be affecting...

    Back from North Dakota...got pictures!!

Thanks for the pics, one thing about time away from the ranch is that it is always nice to get back home again too! I'm glad you had a safe trip. Kids look happy on all the pics so it must have been a good one.

    Big Muddy- Rain?

Boy it sure is hard to get rain when you really need it, we've had 90% chance today and only got about .10", cool and overcast, better than a hot dry wind. Sounds like areas around Great Falls have had big rains, noticed that Great Falls has gotten around 6 inches of rain in the 2-3 weeks. Maybe...

    Nebraska Sandhills Taskforce

Does anybody on rancher.net know anything about this organization or is maybe a member of it? You can pm me too if you want to talk off the board. Just curious as we have a group from in our area that is interested in finding out more about NST.

    Its a soaker

We got .90 here in northern Montana, boy we sure needed it bad too. Just came in the nick of time as things were turning dry real quick. Maybe it will keep coming, temps look good this coming week to - 70's. Hope you get some rain soon FH.

    Somemore spring

Nice to see you have green grass, you must of had some decent moisture. It sounds like some area's are still dry, is NW Texas and Oklahoma still dry? Had a friend come drive back from Dallas a few days ago and he thought it looked terrible dry where he traveled, (don't know what route he took)...
