Someone splain me something about genetically-modified wheat

The field was fallow this year. The farmer sprayed round-up to kill weeds. The wheat did not die, so he was curious why and had it tested. Like somebody else said wheat dies pretty quick with round-up. That's why it got tested, I guess if I sprayed a field and only the wheat lived I'd be...

    Getting started

This is what I did. I noticed there were some large areas in town that people owned and paid someone else to mow. I offered to mow them for the hay. I got a square bailer and related equipment and mowed hay and sold it to horse people. Eventually I bought a acreage and started feeding some...

How did you meet your husband/wife?

It was my 21st birthday and I thought she would make a nice little birthday present for myself. She told me that she already had on A-hole in her pants and did not need another. We had our 30th last august, guess I proved her wrong.

I'm from the city and want to move out west to start a ranch

$50,000 is still a chunk of money and $100,000 is nice chunk of money, and what I would give to be 21 again. If I had it to do over again. I would go a good college like South Dakota or Wyoming or CSU that has a good range program. SDSU has some experiment ranches out in the western part of...

    Cows @ Salt

There is almost as much cloride (salt is sodium cloride) as there is calcium in milk. Ask a dairy farmer if he ever forgot to put salt in his ration, if he did his milk production dropped 5# the next day. So if the average angus produces 20# of milk a day, not having salt will drop her...

Feeding hay with horses on the Y6, 1-22-11, Part Two

Those horses keep going as he's running the hydra fork. Saves on having another man on the job too. As far as harnessing, I can generally get my team harnessed in about 15 minutes. This guy probably does it more often than I do so he can get 6 up and ready in about half hour. They don't have...

    Monensin poisoning in horses

Rumensin, is alot more deadly than bovatec. I wouldn't feed bovatec to horses, but have seen them eat bovatec and survive quite well. Bovatec has always been a lot safer, Rumensin has more kick to it in cattle.

Background: Native Iowan, moved to Minnesota with folks at 19. State took most of our farm to make a park/historical site, sold the rest. After a few years in Minnesota I found a farm and bought it. When my wife and I got married we really watched the money cause we were going to buy a house...
