    Sorta recent pictures

Yes that does look like difficult country to ride in. Do you ever worry about setting fires on horses that are shod? Seems every so often around here someone starts a fire on horseback from the shoes scraping on rocks, so most folks ride with out shoes in the extremely dry times of the year...

    Becoming a Dairy Bigot...

Yes 45 secs of watching that is enough. And Yes obviously that was a staged video, it said in the article that it was an undercover video but that is certainly not true as the camera man is following them around a few feet behind. The organization that released this video should be brought to...

And u thought the wind blew in Texas

Yep no doubt about whether round bales will roll across a field as I have seen it first hand. 9 years ago we had a severe thunderstorm with straight line winds that moved hay bales like that. Took down about 2 miles of power line. The Rural Electric crew said that one hay bale was air borne...

a little bit of everything, except cows

Wow your country really looks good, nice dryland hay!! Wish ours looked half that good. We've been really dry the last 2 months. Our dryland hay is only yielding about 2/3 ton/acre. There is going to be some really expensive hay in this area I'm thinking. Some areas around here got a pretty...

    Calf catcher

Thanks Grassfarmer for posting pictures. I think people are always too negative and critical of anything that isn't "cowboy". We use every available contraption from calf cages on 4 wheelers to calf tables to make the work more efficient and SAFER! Not to say we can't and don't rope off our...

    S&S Trailers

We have a 1990 S&S gooseneck stock trailer, 7x20'. It has had hard use on the ranch but I think has been as good as any other make. The swinging door on the back has been rebuilt a couple of times and may be a weak point of the trailer but most trailers have problems with rear doors eventually...

    Paul Engler/Cactus Feeders

Yes thank you, that was an interesting article. Bet they wouldn't let a 12 year old kid buy a 100 hd of cattle at a sale barn these days without the parents approval.

    Rain

1.6" of slow beautiful rain. Not quite enough to run water in the water holes yet but still awful nice. Heard they have had 6.25" 30 miles west of me in the Little Rocky Mtns. That should keep Beaver Creek running for a while!

    Cattle economics

Interesting discussion, I'm afraid we may see $1.50 fats but feeders will probably stay close to $1.00.......IF the corn and hay prices keep climbing. Definitety a concern for those of us that are mainly cow/calf producers. Nice to have a few wheat acres to maybe take up a little slack.

    Public land grazing

Its been a while since I've logged on and written anything, although I read a lot on here. You folks that don't understand public grazing issues need to realize that for several generation ranches sold with large acres of BLM land have sold with a significant value placed on the BLM acres. My...

    wood heat

Does anyone on this board have any experience or know anyone with a outdoor large round bale furnace. I've seen articles in the past on them and have always been tempted to try building one. Should provide pretty cheap heat if you used straw or some other crop residues.
