Which Dairy Heifers should I keep?

I'd go with the Ayrshire-Holstein cross. We milked 80 of them at one time. They'd give almost as much milk as a Holstein, but with the Ayrshire in them they'd do it on poorer feed if they had to. They'd make the best grazers too.

    New Zealand Model, Subsidies.

One thing would be to understand that NZ did more than eliminate ag subsidies, they eliminated a great many things across their society. Just eliminating ag subs wouldn't have worked. For example, the school budgets were cut to the point where in many cases they no longer had janitors, the...

    Election Canada

You all have to remember, the Conservative party is only slightly to the right of the Democrats in the US (and actually to the left of them on some issues), the Liberals WAYYYYY left, and the NDP and Greenies so far left they just about fall off the edge. Conservatives should be in good shape...

Eye Witness to a bank robbery

We had the "Unisex Bandit" get caught on the tail end of a province wide bank-robbing spree here a few years back. "fella" who was robbing banks to save up enough money to finish it's sex change, the top half had already been done and apparently looked like a well-endowed female, he hadn't saved...

Most difficult thing to do in sport ?

Hardest thing in sports is for a quarterback going up under centre at practice when he knows darn well the hogs had beans and chili for lunch. We always did when I was playing anyway, and the QBs would wash their hands for half an hour after practice

More on the Transcanada oil pipeline

Silver, if you REALLY want to get peeved, look up the section of NAFTA that says Canada can't charge the Americans one penny more for Canadian oil than Canadians pay.

    Guess I Stirred The Pot

NR I wish you luck. I think your gov'ts in Sask. tend to be somewhat similar to what we have in Ontario now. Little while back we asked our Lib. Minister of Agriculture for help in strengthening trespassing laws here, in part so that we could control who was and wasn't hunting on our lands. We...

    cull prices?

We shipped two Tuesday, got 38 cents for one and 51 for the other (Holsteins). Course that was before any of the buyers knew Gencor was bankrupt, most of them were planning on reshipping them up there on the next load they could get them on.

    Music?

I listen to Johnny Reid a fair bit, mostly because I played football with him in university. His singing voice sounds almost nothing like him. Fair bit of Metallica, Lynyrd Skynyrd, Tea Party.

    All time top 50

Friend of mine was an ambulance attendant back in the days when Bobby was playing, remembers it being a monthly occurrence in the off season that somebody would call them and the police out to Point Anne to Bobby's house. Bobby would be drunk on the front step having a laugh with the cops about...

    All time top 50

Being from Bobby Hull's hometown, I'd take him off the list just based on being an all around nasty piece of trash off the ice. Ray Bourque?

When a neighbor goes behind your back is it just business?

If you have a written agreement, fine. If you're working year to year on a handshake, it's ALWAYS open to somebody else to put their bid in.

    Bad food makes good money

From what I understand they're collecting antibodies from horses infected with E.Coli then refining them to produce the vaccine for cattle. The horses are just up the road here, run around on pasture all the time and every X days get taken into a lab on the farm and have some blood drawn or...

    Canada 17 Finland 0

World under-18 women's tournament. Canada 15 Switzerland 0 in the exhibition game before the tournament. Maybe this is a tournament the "world" wasn't ready for and Canada, US and Sweden should have had their own tournament. 38-3 for Canada in the first three games.

    Wolf Attack

We had some pretty tenacious wolves not far from here this fall. Father and two sons had some snare lines out for them, one son (17) was out keeping watch one night and found himself sitting back against a tree with 8 wolves circling the tree. Only had 5 rounds in his rifle and no spares (yes...
