    Spring Success

In the middle of December 2010, my Dat and I bought 23 bred black angus heifers that were to start calving March 15th, for $1200/hd. They were with the bulls for 40 days, bred to low bw angus bulls. They started calving 3/6/11 and the last one calved 4/16/11. We ended up with a 100% calf...

What do you call a farmer

Cowboy, Rancher, Farmer, Cowman, each have their own identifiying characteristics associated with their lifestyle, making the lifestyle what it is. Some are diehard _____________ (you fill in the blank), others would call themselves a blend. I know some darn good farmers, that farm to make...

I may be wrong, but I think FH posted that as a bit of a news story, I don't think she was griping about the situation. Shiza!

    Money left on the Table

In my small opinion, every operation has the opportunity to be profitable, it is a matter of taking a look at the operation and determining the necessary steps that need to be taken in order to achieve the setforth goal of being profitable. I believe it involves all of the factors being...

    ??????

I agree with Justin, we have a NH 1475 Haybine and we haven't found anything that it won't cut. We get the windrows spread out as far as possible to accomodate the baler and the hay dries fairly quickly. Best cutting machine I have ever ran.

Weekend project, June 5 & 6. Pictures included.

There aren't a lot of these in this country. This one is a 2009 and it has a price tag of $51,000. This was the first time it has been used. I don't know what a good used one would cost. The fields we planted were winter wheat stubble, we sprayed them with roundup on June 3rd and planted...

Weekend project, June 5 & 6. Pictures included.

Yeah I don't have any complaints with this drill. It is fairly easy to set up and operate and I really like the down pressure you can get. The only beef I had with it was getting how much seed I wanted planted adjusted. The manual said to jack the drill up and hang some cups below the hoses...

Weekend project, June 5 & 6. Pictures included.

My rig for the weekend. I had a helper for most of the weekend! Jake checking how much seed is left. Checking out the back of the drill. Two cowboys, playing farmer, ready for the ride home! We had 100 acres of wheat stubble that we needed to do something with, so we decided to plant...
